there's something wrong with my line

January 29, 2002 under Computers, Internet

ISP troubles…grrrrr. This past Sunday and Monday, Rogers was trying my patience. I guess they were your typical run o’ the mill connection problems. I could only stay connected for a few minutes at a time. I’d lose my IP, my computer would forget the DNS suffix and subnet and my cable modem would report errors. After two Net-less days, it appears that everything is fine now. Many of my fellow Rogers patrons have complained that their service leaves a lot to be desired. I’m not sure if it’s the neighbourhood I live in or if it’s something else, but I’ve been lucky (minus Sunday and Monday). I’ve consistantly had an average downstream rate of 900 KB/s for the past year or so. And now that Rogers controls what’s left of @Home in Canada, I hoping performance and reliability will improve. We’ll see.

On a brighter note, Barry got himself a web cam. He has it setup to FTP a new image every few seconds. You can see still images here, via META REFRESH tags in the HTML. However, he wanted to be able to update the picture on his website without using META REFRESH tags to refresh the entire page rather just update the image. So I whipped up some code in JavaScript for him to use right on his main page (without refreshing the entire page every few seconds). In case you forgot, his site can be found at Andelusia.com. He was so grateful of the script I wrote for him, that he expressed his appreciation for it live on his web cam.

For those who can’t quite make out what Barry wrote on that piece of paper, it says “Chris Bellini is da man”. Aw shucks 😉
