Dontcha hate it…
Don’t you hate it when hardware fails? Yesterday, I’m in the midst of a marathon UT2K4 session when all of a sudden the ol’ PC locks up and I hear a familiar “click…….click…….click” sound. Sounds like a head smacking into a platter, to me. Good thing it was the drive with my swap partition and not the one with Windows/program files/etc. This is the second hard drive that this computer has wrecked in the same way. As long as I can remember, my DVD-ROM and CD-RW on the secondary IDE controller can’t work in UDMA mode. I’ve had to resort to, ugh, PIO. So I’ve had enough. I broke tradition and got a Western Digital drive; bucking my usual Maxtor loyalty. With a gift card and rebate, I got it from Futureshop for free. To prevent this happening a third time, I’m replacing my sub-par 300W power supply with a 550W one that I found on eBay for a wicked price. I’m also ditching my P4S8X (since it’s likely a phunny IDE controller causing all of my woes) in favor of an 865PE Neo2-LS. Everything should be in later this week.
What a fun weekend I have in store for me 🙁
