ball spotting day

Happy Labour Day, folks! My fondest memories of Labour Day are spending the entire long weekend at work; the Hollinger Golf Club in Timmins. The Annual Labour Day Tournament at the Hollinger Golf Club was the final big tournament of the season and it brough people from all over to it, even California. As I recall, for the six summers that worked during the tournament (I missed three of the tournaments during my eight-years working in the pro shop due to university) the weather was always cold. Like the end of November in Northern Ontario cold. Like “holy shit this is fucking cold, there” cold (Side Note: in Timmins half English-half French vernacular, many sentences and phrases end with the word ‘there’ without actually refering to a location. The word is actually pronounced ‘dare’.). Cold. It could’ve been in the 30s (Celsius of course) prior to the Labour Day weeekend. And it was often just as warm shortly there after. But inevitibly, the long weekend was chilly. It looks like times have changed since the weather up there (now I’m using ‘there’ in reference to a location) is currently warm.

Today, Dena and I went flying with her boss in a single propeller puddle-jumping plane. He was a pilot in the R.C.N. and recently became recertified as a pilot. We left from the Waterloo-Ellington Flight Centre (which is right next to the Region of Waterloo International Airport) and flew to Hanover and back. I will say this…I’m now a huge fan of the services offered by Air Canada, WestJet, Delta, NWA and so on. The little plane that we flew in today was bounced around by even the slightest of breezes. And those breezes were ever present. Try 300 centimetre sudden rises/drops in altitude…very often. There wasn’t a 30 second stretch without turbulance. This lasted the entire flight, both ways. On the way back, poor Dena thrice puked (thankfully barf bags were on board). We made it back to solid ground, though 🙂
