It’s a new year, so Dena and I have decided to try some new things.
First, we’re going to seriously budget and save money. We’re sick of living like we did when we were university students. Appartment living is drag and personally, I’m sick of “sharing walls”.
Second, we’ll increase our social consciousness. That’s not to say we were neglectful self-serving assholes before. Quite the contrary. We just plan to take more action, rather than be idle. For starters, we’ll donate towards the tsunami victims via the Mennonite Central Comittee. Living in the Region of Waterloo, we are in mennonite country after all, and Dena feels more secure with them rather than another charity organization.
Finally (but probably not truly the last of the “new things”), we’re contemplating ditching our Bell land line. Rogers has their new Couples & Family Plan, which is intruiging. For the longest time, I’ve resisted getting a mobile phone. There’s something about having a transmitter against my head that puts me off. Hell, I keep our WiFi router powered off when not in use so that we don’t have unused radio waves bouncing all over the place. Also, I prefer communicating when I’m ready. It explains why I’m a fan of email, instant messaging and voice mail. But the convenience factors with mobile phones is starting to make sense, epseically that Couples & Family Plan for us.
