pixies weren't a pneumonia-related hallucination

January 6, 2005 under Music

I finally got my CD that I ordered from Disc Live. It’s a recording of the Pixies concert that we attended back in November. It’s a cool souvenier, I think. Disc Live only manufactures 1500 discs for each concert and I got number 666. Ooooh 🙂

In other news, the company that I work for, In-House Solutions, has made a dontation to the vicitms of the tsunami.

And finally…yes, my site was unavailable during the last couple of days. MonsterHosting had some hardware failures, but everything seems to be back in order.

hockey…it's kinda our 'thing'

January 5, 2005 under Hockey, Sports

Team Canada did it! They won this year’s World Junior Championships, and extremely easily, too. They were undefeated with 41 goals for and only 7 goals against 🙂

cold war 2005

January 4, 2005 under Hockey, Sports

Tonight’s the big game; Canada vs Russia! During every holiday season since I can remember, I’ve watched the World Junior Championships. For the past two Christmas holidays, I’ve been in Crystal Falls so I’ve missed most of the tournament. This year, because the tournament was hosted in the States, ESPN was apparently supposed to be covering some games, but I never actually saw any coverage. I had to rely on TSN‘s website to stay updated. After beating the living hell out of every team they faced this year, Team Canada better beat the Russians.

In other news, if you want to help those affected by the tsunami in eastern Asia, check out this list of agencies. The Canadian Federal Government matches private donations dollar-for-dollar. More info on that is here.

this year's resolution…continue to wonder about homeland security

January 1, 2005 under Life, Politics

Happy 2005!

Dena and I are back home in Kitchener, which has far less snow now than the day we left. Good times were had with the inlaws. Of course, it wouldn’t be a holiday without some snafus. As I mentioned previously, our flight was cancelled twice, but we finally flew out on Christmas Eve. At Detroit’s airport, our luggage was left behind, likely due to a back-log as a result of the winter storm. But all in all, in was a nice holiday.

I must say, however, that the Homeland Security thing they have in the States is horribly lame. Our luggage in Detroit needed to be checked a second time; apparently the inspection at the Waterloo Regional Airport wasn’t good enough for the Homeland Security people. We were told that our luggage would be opened by “any means neccessary” if it was locked. To top it off, the US Customs agent ignored my greeting and told me to “move along” after I wished him a happy holiday season. Conversely, Dena and I briefly chatted with the Canada Customs agent about our holidays, the layout of the Waterloo Regional Airport and the general rudeness of US Customs agents. Maybe the US Customs agents could resolve to be a bit personable this year 🙂
