britwave…again

Barry has a post on his blog about his five favourite albums of all time. Personally, I’d have no way of narrowing that to five. I typically post a list a list of my favourite albums released each year, here on my website. But all-time? There are too many albums that have impacted me through out the years to constrict to a list.

And what’s the deal with all of these UK indie bands that sound like the British New Wave Invasion bands of the 80’s; The Libertines, Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, etc. It was nice at first when it was just Franz Ferdinand all by themselves. I grew up listening to the original British New Wave Invasion, because my cousin Christine (and to a lesser extent, my cousin Paul) were into that scene when they were in highschool. XTC (the first album I ever owned was their Drums and Wires album), Squeeze, Talk Talk, ABC and Human League were some of the bands that I first listened to, among others in various genres. I now know how all of the original Black Sabbath and Stooges fans felt during grunge’s heyday. To each their own, of course. But I should warn the fans of the current crop of bands that the first Invasion in the 80’s didn’t last that long. I guess I’ll stick with the new releases from less trendy and stylistically different bands like Idlewild, Mercury Rev, Spoon and QotSA.
