Last night I read on Digg that Skype is allowing SkypeOut calls to/from Canada and the US for free…at least until December 31, 2006 for now. Read more about it here:

Apparently there’s a problem in that if your IP address is within the range of 70.x.x.x to 79.x.x.x, this might not work. I’m in that range at the moment 😐 I’ll test it out tonight and hopefully discover that I’m not affected. If it works, I’ll pat myself on the back for not signing up for a long distance plan when I switched my landline service from Bell to Rogers earlier this year. If it doesn’t work, I’ll continuously renew my IP in the hopes that I’ll end up in a different pool 😉
One Response to "reach out and touch someone"
It definitely works. I called our landline from Skype and it worked perfectly. I can see a whole lot of Telco’s freaking out about this. Even this Senator from Alaska is up in arms 🙂 Hopefully Skype keeps this free North American SkypeOut feature around beyond the end of this year.
