for some of us, the hockey season starts tomorrow

September 30, 2007 under Hockey

I haven’t posted much about hockey lately. Dena gives me grief that all I talk about on this blog o’ mine is geek stuff. I try to tell her that I usually mention my daily goings-on with Facebook Status Updates feature for those that have me on their friends list. I get unimpressed looks from wifey, so…..

Tomorrow night begins a new season of Monday night shinney. This past summer, I played shinney on Mondays too. At the same time, I was on a team in the summer mens league at the Ice Park. Our team, the Devils, didn’t get off to a stellar start. Most teams in the league had been together for a few seasons. For us, it was our first time playing together, and the first few games really displayed our lack of cohesiveness. But we started to gel half way through the season and managed to make the playoffs. We lost 5-2 in the semi-finals to a team comprised of mostly ex-OHLers. We didn’t manage to get the Devils into any leagues this winter, unfortunately, due to financial reasons. So I’ll only be playing hockey once a week this winter. Twice a week in the summer and now only once a week for the winter; something about that seems wrong. Oh well. Our company is entering the High Tech Hockey Tournament this November – a tournament where companies in the Tech Triangle fight for hockey supremacy – so there’s a bit more hockey for me.

Fear not, the Devils will be back to challenge for the title in the summer league and hopefully in subsequent winter leagues.

PS: About a month ago, I ditched my old Bauer Supreme 1000’s for a new pair of Bauer Supreme 50’s and they’re awesome – crazy light.
