Me as a Simpsons characterToday’s the day that the Simpsons Movie opens. For those that know me, you can probably guess how geared up I am to see this. It only took 18 years, but I hope it was worth the wait. Since the first season starting airing on Thursday evenings on Global back in 1989 (Northern Cable in Timmins didn’t have a Fox affiliate in the channel lineup at that time but Global carried most of Fox’s lineup anyway), I’ve been watching religiously. The Simpsons is probably the closest thing to fanboy-ism for me. Even though some may disagree and say its glory days are behind it, I still say it’s one of the smartest shows on TV. What other show mixes humour of both the high and low brow variety with satirical takes pop culture, social and political issues? Hopefully, the movie will follow suit. And if it doesn’t, then I’ll take a cue from Comic Book Guy – “I must be first to register my disgust on the internet regarding the new Simpsons film”. But I seriously doubt that I’ll have to.

And in case you’re wondering who that dapper fellow to the left is, that’s me as a Simpsons character 🙂
